October 4, 2018 – Treatment Action Group congratulates TAG cofounder and Yale University Assistant Professor Gregg Gonsalves on receiving a 2018 MacArthur Fellowship. Gregg co-wrote TAG’s seminal 1992 report, “AIDS Research at the NIH: A Critical Review” with Mark Harrington and wrote the crucial 1993 report “Basic Science on HIV Infection: A Report from the Front.”

He was TAG Policy Director through 2000 and led TAG’s treatment literacy workshops with the Treatment Action Campaign in 2000. From 2001-2006 he worked at GMHC, then relocated to Cape Town, South Africa, to work with the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) and AIDS Rights Alliance of Southern Africa (ARASA). From 2009 he started completing his B.A., his M.A., and his Ph.D. at Yale University where he is now Assistant Professor of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases, associate (adjunct) professor and research scholar at Yale Law School, and co-director of the Global Health Justice Partnership and the Collaboration for Research Integrity and Transparency. His most recent article, coauthored by Forrest W. Crawford, is “Dynamics of the HIV outbreak and response in Scott County, IN, USA, 2011–15: a modelling study,” published in The Lancet HIV.
