Receiving a Commitment in Action Award
For nearly twenty years, Joe McConnell served as TAG’s administrator, retiring in April 2024. His portfolio at TAG encompassed office management, fiscal processing, fundraising support, Board support, and program support. Joe’s involvement with TAG marked a transition from his career of thirty-three years in the performing arts, with extensive experience in nonprofit administration, theater production and casting, company management, and fundraising.
Joe’s work at TAG built on his history of volunteer support of political, LGBTQ+, and HIV/AIDS causes, including efforts with GMHC and BC/EFA. Joe’s tenure observed significant advances in TAG’s efforts and outreach as TAG matured from a staff of four to a staff of twenty full-time employees plus consultants, with TAG’s programmatic budget increasing by nearly 400% during his tenure. Highlights of Joe’s involvement included shepherding the annual RIAA awards gala and his participation as part of TAG’s team of representatives at the International AIDS Society’s annual world conference.
Joe is married to award-winning theater writer and journalist Erik Haagensen.
