In response to the Biden administration’s intention to create a new research agency under the NIH called the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), TAG and AVAC were invited to present remarks and guidance on the behalf of the Federal AIDS Policy Partnership (FAPP) Research Work Group (RWG) to NIH leadership on the agency’s prospective research portfolio and priorities.
The statement urges NIH leadership to work closely with the HIV research sector, advocates for the inclusion of HIV and other infectious diseases in the ARPA-H portfolio, calls for ensuring robust structures for community engagement, and the need for the government to safeguard the right to the access of benefits of publicly-funded science that results from ARPA-H’s agenda.
