Research in Action Award
Wakefield (Steve Wakefield) recently retired from a forty-year health care advocacy career of service to ethically increase community participation in HIV prevention research. His human rights and HIV activism has touched thousands of individual and organizations around the globe with a stamp of caring innovation that transformed hundreds of projects. Best known for leading stakeholder engagement at the HIV Vaccine Trials Network he continues service with the National Black Gay Men’s Advocacy Group, and was a founding member of AVAC: his public service has included NIH, UNAIDS, and numerous government, non-profit, foundations and academic groups. Wakefield is passionate about implementation of evidence-based strategies to end the epidemic.
