Joy Episalla is a multidisciplinary New York–based artist. Episalla has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe since the 1980s. Her solo exhibition, Street View Rear Window, at Participant Inc in New York City, garnered much critical acclaim. David Ebony wrote, “the set-up seems simple, but the perceptual workout Episalla offers is formidable.” Writing of the show in Photograph magazine, Carlo McCormick said, “in ways at once poetic and process-driven, Episalla is most interested in creating open-ended situations that engage the viewer in the question of how we see or read things.” Episalla is a founding member of the lesbian art collective fierce pussy. A longtime AIDS activist, Episalla has been a part of TAG for over 20 years and a board member since 2006. Joy Episalla’s work was featured in Greater New York at MoMA PS1 in 2015-2016.
